What we’re trying to do

PDF compression should be quick, private, and available to anyone without signing up. Shrinklyy does exactly that: it shrinks the file, respects your privacy, and doesn’t keep a copy. Whether it’s a resume, a contract, or a scanned certificate, the file stays yours.

Why we built it this way

Most sites ask you to send the PDF to a server and then promise to delete it. For sensitive files, contracts, ID scans, medical papers: that promise feels thin. We wanted an alternative where you never have to hand over the file in the first place. So Shrinklyy does the work right in your browser instead.

How it works under the hood

We use the same open libraries many PDF tools do: pdf-lib and pdf.js: but we run them locally, not on a server. Your browser reads the pages, re-saves the images at a sensible quality, keeps only the font characters you used, and clears out hidden leftover data. Nothing travels over the network.

What that means for privacy

Because everything happens in your browser, your files aren’t sent over the internet, stored on a server, or logged in a database. Close the tab and the file data leaves memory. It’s a practical privacy difference: not just a policy line. That said, you should still only upload the compressed copy to the site that asked for it, and keep your original safe on your device.

Roadmap

Shrinklyy is actively maintained and new features are added based on user feedback. Upcoming developments include batch PDF processing and additional compression presets. We are committed to keeping the core service free and private.

Shrinklyy is built and maintained independently. The service is funded through non-intrusive advertising to keep all compression tools free for everyone. We do not sell user data, require accounts, or place watermarks on your files.
